We're #1. For Now.

Margate moved right to the top of the league table with a 2-1 win against Tonbridge. Excellent!

Can someone comment on promotion from the Ryman Premiership? Are the top two spots guaranteed promotion? Playoff for the next 4? Where would The Gate get promoted to if they are fortunate enough to hang on?

Long Overdue Update With Good News

The Gate have been on a league hot streak since last we met with three straight wins.

First was a 2-0 home win against Hampton & Richmond Borough on November 11th. Next was another victory at home, 4-1 over Harrow Borough on November 18th. Finally, Margate pulled out a 3-1 road win over Bromley on the 21st.

This puts Margate 4th in the table, just 1 point behind the leading clubs!!

What a great run of matches. Let's hope it continues!

Next up is an away match on Saturday at Longmead Stadium to face Tonbridge Angels.

Curious Margate Reference

I ran across an interesting blog today with a curious reference to The Gate:
South End have shown us the light. There will be days when clubs for the people, like Margate FC, Red Bull NY and Ting Tong Pyongyang FC will rise up from on the power in the terraces and change soceity by destoying hockey, and those that worship the false sport.

The light shines bright

Not sure if this site is on the up and up, all sorts of loonies out there, but at least the fans in Canada are getting excited about the new MLS team.

Leyton Result

Not sure what happened to the original posting but let it be noted that Margate defeated Leyton 4-0 in their league match on 10/28.

Complete Tournament Failure

Nothing but the league to focus on now as Margate bow out of the first round of the Kent Senior Cup with a 1-0 loss to Vickers, Crayford & Dartford.

The Gate currently sit 8th in the table, 6 back of the top spot. Next up is Hampton & Richmond Borough FC at home on Saturday.

Up The Gate!!

No Trophy For You Margate

Margate lost on a penalty to Gloucester City and were eliminated from the Carlsberg FA Trophy.

But as Jeremy Jacobs points out, The Gate still have one more tournament to prepare for: The John Ullman Kent Senior Cup!!

The Gate face VCD Athletic FC tonight in the first round!

The Gate Claim a Victory

Margate entered their final tournament of the season, the FA Challenge Trophy, on Saturday with an away match against Wivenhoe Town FC. The Dragons play a rung below the Gate in the Isthmian Division One North league and sit in 5th place, 6 points behind table leaders Harlow Town - "Did you recognise your block across the square, over there?"

Margate won the encounter by a 3-1 margin. A much better result than we are used to seeing lately! Let's hope it's a sign that the club is turning back in the right direction.

The FA Trophy is open to clubs from the Football Conference, Southern League, Isthmian League, and Northern Premier League.

Congratulations to Ottawa St. Anthony Soccer Club

Veering slightly off point to congratulate a local amateur squad that has reached the heights -- from their web site:

Congratulations to Ottawa St Anthony Men Premier for becoming the first Ottawa team to win a Men's National Club Championship. This team had a spectacular season capturing the Ottawa title, the Ontario Cup Championship, the Canadian Soccer League Open Canada Cup, and now the Canadian National Championship. A season for the record books.

Well done lads.
